Billy Fury's mum last year discovered rare recordings in her attic in Mossley Hill, Liverpool. Together with her son, Billy's brother Albie, she collected other rare Billy Fury family photos etc., and passed all the material on to Chris Hewitt of Ozit Records
He was a school mate of Ringo Starr
He died at only 43, in 1983
His version of "A Wondrous Place" is being featured on TV continually on that strange Toyota car commercial for the Toyota Yaris
Rock luminaries who fete him as their hero include such counter-culture figures as Ian Dury, John Cooper Clarke, and Mick Farren (of The Deviants, plus sci-fi author and underground rock journalist)
There has been nothing new discovered or released in the way of recordings from him until his mum and brother (Jean Wycherley and Albie Wycherley) found a box of old tapes in the attic and passed them (together with a one-off 78 Billy had cut straight to disc) to Chris Hewitt of Ozit Records - a fast growing North-West underground/independent record label with offices in Cheshire and Los Angeles
Billy Fury (real name Ronald Wycherley) would have been 60 on 17th April this year
The Beatles auditioned his backing band and although Fury wanted to use them, his manager Larry Parnes wouldn't let him
So just before what would have been his 60th birthday, Ozit Records have put together rare archive family photos from Billy's mum with rare recordings which have had hundreds of hours of studio time to clean some of the noise off the tape and 78 recordings and we have one of the most important audio documents to have been released on the UK music scene for many years and a most important part of the Liverpool and UK rock scene
The CD album is entitled Billy Fury "A Wondrous Place Live - Plus Rare Early Demo Recordings"
