Goldmine, November 2003 - A Broad Abroad, Jo-Ann Greene
Tractor resurface on another Ozit label reissue, as the band members’ origins in the group The Way We Live are thoroughly investigated across A Candle For Judith. Originally recorded for and released by DJ John Peel’s Dandelion label in 1971, the original eight-track album has been appended with no fewer than 11 bonus
tracks.
Just three of the bonus tracks date from the group’s original incarnation, a pair of 1969/1970-era demos and a 1971 alternate take. Three more songs were cut at some unspecified date in the 1970s, a fourth revisits a 1977 single and the remainder date from Tractor’s 2002-2003 reunion activities. Nevertheless, the quality of the original Jim Milne/Steve Clayton duo’s work remained constant through all those years, and recent remastering work has done nothing beyond add some additional luster to the group’s original polish. An excellent booklet includes the band members’ own recollections, together with some great illustrations.
